Over the weekend, the metal part of my car key fell out of the plastic transponder remote thing. I had to wait until this morning to speak with someone at the dealership, and they told me programming a new key would be $180. I refuse to pay that because I hate that dealership to begin with and also read online a lot of other places only charge the cost of cutting a new key ~ $30-50. Luckily I called around and found a reputable locksmith who said he could cut and program two keys for $60 and to just head over. Okay, cool. I grab some pliers to maneuver the metal key part into starting the ignition and get nothing. After messing with my car for 10 minutes, I finally realize the battery is dead! Now I’m waiting for insurance to send someone to jump start my battery and crossing my fingers I don’t need a new one. So frustrating.
I usually wouldn’t freak out over something like this but I’ve been crazy emotional lately and when Mike asked what was wrong I went into a full-blown meltdown. You know that kind of crying where only ugly noises and nose sniffles come out? That kind of meltdown.. and I just did my makeup, with an almost even wing on both sides!!
After I got myself together, I dabbed at my tears and was pleasantly surprised my makeup still looked freshly done. No runny streaks or anything. Now I’m even more impressed with the Revlon ColorStay formula lol.
Update and meltdown #2 -
The battery guy comes and can’t get my car to start after connecting the jump cables, messes with it for 20 minutes, decides it’s the battery PLUS another mechanical issue, and leaves. I called USAA back to have them send a tow truck, but because my car is parked in an underground garage, they don’t think the tow truck will meet the height clearance. USAA is so awesome - I think the customer service rep could tell how frustrated I was because he got real soft and motherly with me while he found a tow company with a portable battery, which would allow my car to be driven up to the ground level and outside the garage. While I wait for the tow truck, I go back upstairs to have meltdown #2, because auto problems give me the same anxiety Vet visits do - you never know how much money you’ll be shelling out.
The tow guy figured out my car was freaking out because the chip in my remote wasn’t close enough to the reader, since the metal part had separated from it. On our way to the mechanic’s, he suggested stopping by the locksmith first, and he was totally right! My car thought I was trying to steal it lol so it was a safety mechanism designed to prevent the engine from starting. I tipped him $20 for knowing what the battery guy didn’t and paid for two new keys. Today feels like the longest.day.EVER. Thankfully everything worked out and two hysterical meltdowns later my makeup is still perfect.
I need a nap.
